My name is Kim Jewell.  

 

I have been a mental health consumer myself for 30 years, and an independent advocate for people affected by mental illness for 20 years, in the Townsville area.  

 

I charge no fees, and receive no funding from any source.  

 

My approach is simple - to help a fellow consumer to achieve their full potential as a person.  

 

Inquiries welcome from individuals, families, by email or post.  

 

My background includes over 10 years as an intermittent patient with Townsville's infamous Ward 10B, months in a maximum security prison for the criminally insane, and,later, supported on the disability pension, studying for and gaining a university degree, followed by a successful 18-year career in the Australian Public Service, a published writer on mental health, and poet.  

 

Having recently left the public service, my challenges now involve completing a book on my experiences, gaining a Diploma in Mental Health at TAFE, and concurrently working part-time as a mental health support worker.
